Who are Trading Brokers
Trading Brokers was founded in 2024 to answer a seemingly simple question: “What makes a good trading broker for UK traders?”
We review, compare and assess a host of different UK trading platforms in order to find the best platform for beginners, intermediate and advanced traders.
Our team includes former and current city traders and independent traders working diligently to craft a hands-on, tried and tested reviews and comparisons to educate the British public in a safe, informative (and hopefully sometimes!) entertaining way.
Located in the heart of Edinburgh, we are a proud mix of Englishmen and Scotsmen we are dedicated to preserving the long history of publishing media from Scotland.
History
The journey all started in 2024 when we were taking a stroll along Princes Street when all of a sudden… nope, we’ll keep It brief. We were founded by James Warwick, a former FTSE100 Director who after 8+ years in educational publishing decided that, for some reason, he was going to enter the single most competitive field in the known universe – financial media.
He came to this realisation after looking for a trading broker who actually meets the needs of an average trader (which he was at the time) and was met with pure incomprehensible nonsense. So in a desperate attempt to rescue his sanity from the DIPFA”s and CPA’s, we created ‘Trading Brokers’.
We provide simple, easy-to-understand, first-hand broker reviews and articles on topics such as: ‘What is the Best Trading Broker in the UK for Beginners‘ and ‘Who are the Best Brokers for TradingView‘. We try to keep the answers as honest and frank as possible, no BS, no drama.
The Team
James Warwick
CEO & Founder
Head honcho, El Jefe, Big Boss Man are just some of the names he doesn’t like to be called.
James is an education whizkid – rising rapidly up the ranks at Pearson, the largest educational publishing company in the world and becoming AI & Product Director before the age of 30, he now runs Trading Brokers & Spread Bet our sister site dedicated to financial spread betting.
He is an independent trader trading both his own capital and managed capital for one of the largest prop firms in the word (you might be able to guess which one).
He has been featured in articles like Forbes, Entrepreneur, Business Insider & more.
John Michaels
Senior Writer & Contributor
John is a respected finance writer and former city trader, with over 15+ years of experience in the investing and trading world, having ran his own business helping millennial investors with ISA’s, financial planning and investments.
He brings his experience and wealth of knowledge to Trading Brokers by helping craft detailed articles for the team, fact-checking reviews and contributing to many of them.
You can find his articles in the FT, Investing.com and you can find him on a beach in Cyprus whisky in hand.
Paul Williams
Senior Contributor
When Paul isn’t over at Spread Bet doing his thing, he sometimes lends a hand in helping craft beautifully written copy for our comparison articles and fact-checking our sometimes outlandish statements.
Having worked in the city for 10+ years, and as a former HSBC derivatives trader and RBS analyst, Paul is one of the most experienced traders on the team and currently manages his own capital.
You can find him hiking in the Highlands when and if you can find him at all.
How We Review Trading Brokers
Our review criteria is pretty simple in theory but harder to execute in practice. We believe that everyone should be entitled all the facts before making an informed decision so we report on every aspect of a broker, good bad or ugly including some of our own personal experiences with the products. If we don’t like it, that doesn’t mean that you won’t like it and it won’t be your favourite broker for the next 20+ years. All we do is report information and experiences from our first-hand experience.
We are not regulated financial advisors, nor do we claim to be, we are not licensed to give financial advice and we never make any claims about what you should or should not invest in or how you decide to use your money, all information on this site is intended for educational and informational purposes only.
Our review criteria combines the following factors to determine our Best Broker in the UK rankings seen on our homepage:
- Customer service: how quick are they to respond, how clear is the advice and actions they give, how friendly are they.
- Fees: are the fees clear, how low/high are they compared to their competitors
- Execution: how quick are they to execute the orders once placed, what is the slippage, is that slippage range acceptable
- Market range: how diverse is their range of instruments that they offer, do they offer competitive spreads on these instruments
- Regulatory adherence: do they adhere to just one regulation (e.g. the UK) or are they licensed across multiple jurisdictions
These are some of the factors in a whole range of factors including, how easy is the site navigation for beginners, what is setting up a demo account like, is the broker responsive to live chat queries, and a lot lot more.
We intend to deliver the best knowledge to the best people (you lovely people reading this!) at the right time.
How We Make Money
If only… But we make money when someone clicks on a sponsored link, signs up, and actually trades with a broker we recommend from one of our reviews, articles or comparisons. These are a lot of steps I know but sometimes it happens and sometimes we make money. None of this affects your trading experience, nor does any of the money come from you, we also do not see your trades or have any influence over your trades, we are simply recommending a broker based on our experience and if you happen to like an article or a broker we suggest and feel inclined to click on a link and start trading, then and only then will we receive compensation from the broker. These fees we receive are from them, not from you, and that’s how we are able to fund the reviews and comparisons you see on this site.
These agreements DO NOT extend to our reviews of the brokers, they have no say in the rankings you see on our site or any of the ‘Best’ labels we sign to a broker, nor do they impact any of our reviews at all. We are completely editorially independent and intend to remain that way.
For more information on our policy please see our advertising disclosure.
